SOLA Barcelona

The city that started it all.  Not a day goes by that I don't think about the capital of Catalonia. Having visited three regions of Spain and spending at least a week in each, I can say that my fondest memories lie in Barcelona.  For that reason, I've decided to share a list of my favorite things to do in Barca.

La Sagrada Familia
Designed by famous Catalan Architect Antoni Gaudí, this Roman Catholic Church is covered in scenes from Christ's Birth and Crucifixion.

Tibidabo & Temple Expiatorio de Sagrat Cor
For a panoramic view of the city, make your way to Tibidabo.  Located upon the mountain is Church of the Sacred Heart and Barcelona's oldest amusement park.

Montjuïc & Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya
Thousands gather at Montjuïc to witness the beautifully choreographed display of water, lights, and music known as Font Màgica.

Casa Milà
Also known as La Pedrera, this boastful masterpiece is also designed by Catalan Architect, Antoni Gaudí.  The multitudes flock here for it's exhibitions and views of the city.

Museu Picasso
Containing a collection of works from Pablo Ruiz y Picasso's adolescent years, this museum will push the limits of those who claim to be true admirers of Picasso.

La Rambla
A main thoroughfare lined with restaurants, shoppes, vendors, and street performers.  For those who enjoy a nice stroll, allow it to lead you to Port Vell.

Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria
This institution will change your view on what a market is.  In addition to mountains of fresh fruit, vegetables, breads, cheeses, poultry, seafood and candies, many well known restaurants reside here.

Parc Güell
If all things great were designed by Gaudí, then Parc Güell is no different.  The presence of mosaic tile gives this park a rainbow of color.

Parc de la Ciutadella
Charming on a bad day, this massive green space is home to Font de la Cascada.  Boat  rentals are available at the nearby lake.

La Platja Barceloneta
The first of many beaches along Barcelona's coastline, Barceloneta is best enjoyed early in the day.  Popular amongst tourists, tranquility fades in the afternoons.

May you be inspired to journey to this magical city for the first time or return for a second!
